Humanities

While training their own undergraduates, M.A., and Ph.D. candidates for a diverse array of careers, the humanities departments and interdisciplinary programs in the College of Arts and Sciences engage all of the University’s students through courses such as ARTH 101, “Visual Culture,” and ENGL 110, “Critical Reading and Writing,” that satisfy University and College requirements as well as through extensive study abroad programming.

Signature features of humanities programming at the University of Delaware depend upon our long-standing partnerships with the Winterthur Museum & Country Estate--which supports the only undergraduate Art Conservation program in the country and three highly selective graduate programs--the M.A. in American Material Culture, the M.S. in Conservation Science, and a Ph.D. program in Preservation Studies—and the Hagley Museum and Library.

Important cross-disciplinary synergies and research partnerships are being facilitated currently through: an NEH Challenge Grant in American material culture studies; the Arts and Humanities Summer Institute for graduate minority recruitment; and the College’s newly established Interdisciplinary Humanities Research Center.
