Class 5: Answers to Assignment

Chapter 3
Exercise 14:

Hint:
Establish three meshes, labeled 1 through 3 starting at left mesh and progressing clockwise.
The first mesh equation would be 90 I1 - 20 I2 - 20 I3 = 12.

Ans:
1.09 V

Exercise S3.1b:
Hint:
By inspection, left mesh current I1 is 2 A.
The right mesh equation is 6 Ix - 4 I1 = 10.

Ans:
3 A

Exercise S3.2b:
Hint:

By inspection, left mesh current I1 is 6 A.
By inspection, right mesh current I3 is - 3 A.
The center mesh equation is 9 I2 - 3 I1 - 6 I3 = 18.

Solve for I2 and find the voltage difference across either of the center branches.

Ans:
30 V
