Chapter 8
Exercise 4:
Hint: The power gain G is given by the ratio of the output power to the input power. Here the input power will be given by V2il / Ril.
Ans: The power gain is 49.3 dB. The overall voltage gain is 43.2 dB.
Exercise S8-1:
Hint: The Thevenin generator to use in place of the Wheatstone bridge consists of
VTH = 0.037 V and RTH = 1.0 k.
Later in the circuit analysis, you should find that the capacitive reactance at the characteristic frequency is 6.0k. At the operating frequency the capacitive reactance will thus be 2.0k.
Ans: The capacitor should be 4.0 mF.
To get 5.0 V out with no load, an open-circuit gain of 44 dB would be required.
Notice, however, that the output impedance of the amplifier is 50 ohm. This suggests that a 50 ohm load may be added to the amplifier, such as a long coax cable properly terminated with 50 ohm; the open-circuit gain would then need to be doubled (50 dB) for 5.0 V to appear across the load.
